JET Bandsaws Compared (JWBS-14SFX, JWBS-15, JWBS-18SFX, JWBS-18SFX-3)
Most shops want the JWBS-15: 14 inches of resaw and the choice of 115 or 230 volt wiring, more resaw than the JWBS-14SFX and more flexibility than either 18 inch model, both of which JET wires for only one voltage. Step down to the 14SFX only if 13 inches of resaw covers what you actually cut, and up to an 18 inch model only once 16 inches of resaw is worth losing the voltage choice the 14SFX and 15 both keep.

JET Woodworking Bandsaw (JWBS-14SFX)
Stop here if a shop where 13 inches of resaw covers what you actually cut, and the smaller footprint and lighter cabinet matter more than the extra resaw the 15 adds.

JET JWBS-15
Stop here if the shop that would otherwise buy the 14SFX but wants more resaw for the same 115 or 230 volt flexibility, and does not mind the extra weight.

JET JWBS-18SFX
Stop here if a shop that needs the wider throat or the deeper resaw, runs on a 115 volt circuit only, and can supply 600 CFM of dust collection.
| Resaw capacity | Throat depth | Motor | Recommended circuit | Dust port / CFM | Net weight | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JET Woodworking Bandsaw (JWBS-14SFX) | 13 in | 13-1/2 in | 1.75 HP, 115/230V, 15 A | 20 A (115V) or 15 A (230V) | Two 4 in, 400 CFM | 272 lb |
| JET JWBS-15 | 14 in | 14-1/8 in | 1.75 HP, 115/230V, 15 A | 20 A | Two 4 in, 400 CFM | 382 lb |
| JET JWBS-18SFX | 16 in | 18 in | 1.75 HP, 115V only, 15 A | 20 A | 4 in, 600 CFM | 382.8 lb |
| JET JWBS-18SFX-3 | 16 in | 18 in | 3 HP, 230V only, 12 A | 20 A | Two 4 in, 600 CFM | 402.6 lb |
JET bandsaws split into four sizes, and stepping up the ladder does not always mean stepping up in every way. Move from the JWBS-15 to the JWBS-18SFX and you gain two inches of resaw. You also lose something most buyers do not see coming until the electrician quotes the job: JET wires the 18SFX for 115 volt only, dropping the 230 volt option the smaller JWBS-14SFX and JWBS-15 both keep.
That trade repeats, in one shape or another, at every step of this ladder.
The four models are the JWBS-14SFX, the JWBS-15, the JWBS-18SFX and the 3 HP JWBS-18SFX-3, and JET sells all four side by side. None has been retired for the next. Read this before buying any of them off our bandsaw picks, because the circuit your shop can actually supply matters as much as the throat on the badge.
Which JET bandsaws are actually different
All four run close to the same blade speed, 3100 FPM on the 15, 18SFX and 18SFX-3, and a hair under that at 3000 FPM on the smallest 14SFX. Every port is 4 inches, but do not assume there is only one: JET's own product copy calls the 14SFX's ports "dual." Detail renders for the 15 and the 18SFX-3 each show two ports on separate panels of the cabinet, against a spec table whose single 4 in. figure states a diameter and says nothing of a count. The 18SFX has neither a render nor descriptive copy naming a count in what we cached, so treat its port count as unconfirmed. JET backs all four with the same five year warranty. Table tilt is where the smallest rung differs from the other three: the 15, 18SFX and 18SFX-3 all tilt 45 degrees right and 5 degrees left, while JET's own spec sheet for the 14SFX lists only the 45 degree right figure, with nothing published for the left side. Check the manual before assuming the smallest saw bevels the same way as the other three. Resaw height and throat are what actually move between rungs here, not the warranty.
What changes, rung by rung
Here is what actually changes at each step, and where JET quietly takes something away.
JWBS-14SFX: the 13 inch base
The smallest cabinet in the line: 13 inches of resaw under a 13-1/2 inch throat, on a 1.75 HP motor wired for either 115 or 230 volt, at 272 lb net. JET's own product page calls out two ports on this rung: "dual 4 inch dust ports".
JWBS-15: an inch more resaw, everything else unchanged
The JWBS-15 adds an inch to resaw (14 in.) and 5/8 inch to throat (14-1/8 in.) over the 14SFX's 13-1/2 in., on the identical 1.75 HP dual voltage motor and the same 400 CFM dust collection requirement. Nothing about the circuit changes. That resaw costs roughly 110 lb of cast iron (382 lb net against the 14SFX's 272, both JET's own figures). It is the rung our own JWBS-15 review covers, and the one leading our current bandsaw picks.
JWBS-18SFX: a bigger throat, and one voltage fewer
Throat climbs to 18 inches and resaw to 16, a real step up from the 15. It costs something, though: JET wires this one for 115 volt only, so the 230 volt option both smaller saws keep is gone, and dust collection requirement climbs from 400 to 600 CFM, on the same 1.75 HP motor as the two saws below it.
JWBS-18SFX-3: the 3 HP version of the same saw
Same 16 inch resaw and 18 inch throat as the 18SFX, on a 3 HP motor wired for 230 volt only, drawing 12 amps against the smaller motors' 15. More power on a dedicated 230 volt circuit, plus about 20 lb more cabinet to carry it (402.6 lb net against the 18SFX's 382.8), is what separates this rung from the 18SFX. It is the rung our JWBS-18SFX-3 review covers, built for resawing wide hardwood. The extra inches on the badge are not the point.
Who should stop where
Circuit access decides more of this ladder than resaw capacity does. Check the panel before the spec sheet. A shop with only a 115 volt run has three of the four to choose from, since the 18SFX-3 needs 230 volt exclusively, and a shop with a 230 volt run and enough resaw need to justify it is the real case for the 18SFX-3 over the 15, since the 18SFX gives up the voltage choice for two inches of resaw and 200 more CFM to move.
For most shops that is the JWBS-15: 14 inches of resaw, the choice of voltage, and the smallest step up in cabinet weight from the entry saw. Drop to the 14SFX only if 13 inches covers what you cut and the lighter cabinet matters. Step to an 18 inch model only once 16 inches of resaw justifies losing the voltage choice, or you already have 230 volt to spare.
