Best robotic pool cleaner for above ground pools

Beatbot · Robotic Pool Cleaners

Beatbot Sora 10

The same rated area and 6,800 GPH suction as the two Soras above it, without the surface jets or the 8 inch platform rating.

  • Cleans the floor, walls, waterline and shallow areas as low as 12 inches per Beatbot's spec table, underwater only; its FAQ and manual give a 0.5 m working depth
  • 6,800 GPH suction, 5L debris basket rated to hold up to 650 leaves, 150 micron filter; Beatbot's Sora 10 page lists a 3 micron ultra-fine basket, fit unconfirmed
  • Up to 5 hours of cleaning per charge on the floor alone, about 4 hours covering floor, walls and waterline, on a 7,800 mAh battery; 3.5 hours to charge at 65W per the product page, 4.5 per the manual

Three of the four robots here carry the same rated pool size, 300 square meters, printed as 3,229 sq ft on two of them and 3,230 on the third. So among these four, the best robotic pool cleaner is not chosen on area. It is chosen on what else in the pool gets cleaned. All three Soras are rated for above-ground and in-ground pools, so pool type only separates the one AIPER, which AIPER sells for in-ground pools.

Every one is a cordless robotic pool cleaner, and every one climbs the walls and does the waterline. What separates them is the water surface, the shallow ledges, the basket and the hours in a charge.

What the picks rest on

Every figure below comes off the maker's product pages and manuals, and the owner counts sit on the reviews that have them. The evidence pack run on the Scuba V3 collected 315 YouTube comments, most of them about pool robots in general. Under videos about the V3, one commenter says they bought it this summer and love it, and another, on a V3 review without naming the model, says "broke after 2 months" and will not power on. Two people are too few to read anything into. The pack carries a few Sora comments besides, used below.

Basis: manufacturer documentation, each maker's product page. The Sora 30 figure follows its spec table, where Beatbot's own comparison guide rounds it to 3,200 in the prose. The Sora 10's shallow figure follows its spec list, which its FAQ disputes, below.

Best robotic pool cleaner overall: Beatbot Sora 70

The one Sora of the three here with JetPulse, Beatbot's name for cleaning the water surface, so floating leaves get taken off the top before they sink. Under the surface it covers the floor, walls, waterline and shallow platforms down to 8 inches, on 6,800 GPH of suction into a 6L basket. A charge runs up to 7 hours skimming or 5 on the floor, and it carries 18 sensors and a 3 year warranty, a year more than the other two Soras.

The basket lifts out of the top once the cover is off, and Beatbot rates it at 6L on the Sora 70. Image: Beatbot.

Skip it if little lands on your water, because the surface jets are most of what it adds over the Sora 30, and Beatbot sets out the rest of that gap on a short list. Our Beatbot Sora 70 review covers what testers saw it skim and what happens when its battery runs out before you lift it out.

Best robotic pool cleaner for inground pools: AIPER Scuba V3

AIPER sells this one for in-ground pools and builds it around a camera. VisionPath combines AI vision and dToF to plan the route and steer around obstacles, and dual LED lights let the camera work at night. Suction is 4800 GPH through dual brushes into a 3.5L top-load basket, and the robot weighs 18.2 lbs on AIPER's store page, 18.1 on its product page.

AIPER's product page lists a wireless charging dock. The blue listing names the dock in its title and the gray one linked here does not, so read the box contents before counting on it.

Skip it if your pool runs past 1614 sq ft, roughly half what each Sora is rated for, or if you need more than 180 minutes in a charge, 210 in ECO mode.

Best robotic pool cleaner for large pools: Beatbot Sora 30

All three Soras carry the same 300 square meter rating, so this award is about what fills it. The Sora 30 has the Sora 70's 10,000 mAh pack without the surface jets, and runs about 4.5 hours over the floor, walls and waterline against about 4 on the Sora 10's 7,800 mAh. Over the Sora 10 it adds platforms cleaned down to 8 inches against 12, four bottom roller brushes in place of two front ones, a 5.2L basket and 13 sensors to 11.

The platform rating has owner reports on both sides. A Sora 30 owner in the pack, with a wide tanning ledge around 12 inches deep, says the robot climbs onto it but tumbles and gets confused there, and is thinking of sending it back. A buyer review on Beatbot's own Sora 30 page says it "also does my bottom two steps and seating ledge". Separately, one commenter complains about the Sora line with no model or ledge named: "Unless you like wheelies, don't bother with Beatbot Sora."

Skip it if you want the surface cleaned too. That job belongs to the Sora 70.

Best robotic pool cleaner for above ground pools: Beatbot Sora 10

An above-ground pool with no tanning ledge gives the Sora 30's 8 inch rating nothing to do, and one without much falling into it has little use for the Sora 70's surface jets. The Sora 10 is rated for the same pool area as both, keeps their 6,800 GPH of suction, and runs a 5L basket for 5 hours on the floor or about 4 over everything. Beatbot's product page gives 3.5 hours back to full on 65W, and its manual says 4.5.

Its shallow rating needs reading twice. The spec list says water as shallow as 12 inches, and the FAQ and manual give its working depth as 0.5m to 3.5m. Three hands-on tests and the owner reports are in our Beatbot Sora 10 review. The Sora 30 against the Sora 10 turns on that gap. Skip it if you have sun shelves shallower than 12 inches to clean, or if the half meter is the figure that holds, because the Sora 30 is rated to 8 inches.

Is a cordless robotic pool cleaner more work?

A little, and all of it is one chore. Even the best cordless robotic pool cleaner comes out of the water to charge. So each of these parks at the surface or the waterline when it finishes, and every Beatbot box ships a hook to lift it with. The Sora 10 needs the hook most, because it waits at the wall for 10 minutes and then sinks.

Empty the basket at the same moment. They run from the Sora 70's 6L down to the V3's 3.5L, the smallest basket on the robot rated for the smallest pool. It is the same charge and empty routine as a robot mower on the lawn beside it.
