Sovol SV08 Max large format CoreXY 3D printer, open frame, front view with the touch screen under the bed and the spool holder on the right
Sovol · FDM 3D Printers

Sovol SV08 Max

One of the largest consumer 3D printers made, and a genuine workhorse for owners who tune it, but the auxiliary feeder, a fussy Z offset and its sheer size make it the wrong first printer.

  • Build volume 500 x 500 x 500 mm, or 500 x 500 x 450 mm with the enclosure kit fitted
  • CoreXY kinematics with linear rails on X, Y and Z, on an aluminum alloy frame
  • Up to 700 mm/s print speed, 40,000 mm/s² acceleration and a 50 mm³/s max flow rate
Bambu Lab P1S enclosed CoreXY 3D printer, front three-quarter view with the glass door closed

Bambu Lab P1S

The enclosed CoreXY to buy for a first printer that just prints, as long as it will not live in a bedroom. Skip it if you print large ASA parts that want a hot chamber, or you expect to swap nozzles in a minute.

  • Build volume 256 x 256 x 256 mm
  • Fully enclosed CoreXY, up to 20000 mm/s² acceleration
  • All-metal hot end up to 300°C, direct-drive extruder, 0.4 mm stainless steel nozzle
Bambu Lab P2S enclosed 3D printer with the AMS 2 Pro four-spool unit on top, front view

Bambu Lab P2S Combo

The enclosed 3D printer to buy if you can only buy one: a 256 mm cube, a hardened hotend, and the AMS 2 Pro that feeds and dries four spools. Skip it if you print large ASA parts, need Ethernet, or already run a P1S that works.

  • Build volume 256 x 256 x 256 mm
  • CoreXY motion system, fully enclosed chamber
  • Hardened steel nozzle and extruder gear, up to 300°C
Snapmaker U1 four-toolhead toolchanger 3D printer, three-quarter view with side-mounted spools
Snapmaker · FDM 3D Printers

Snapmaker U1

A 270 mm CoreXY toolchanger that prints up to four colors by parking complete toolheads instead of purging one nozzle, so a color change costs no purge, though a prime tower remains. Nine of 62 owners describe a fault on their machine, and the software trails Bambu Lab's. Skip it if you print ABS or ASA and will not add the Top Cover, or your models need a fifth color.

  • Build volume 270 x 270 x 270 mm
  • Four toolheads included, one filament each, on a CoreXY frame
  • Max nozzle temperature 300°C, 0.4 mm nozzle, direct drive
QIDI Max4 enclosed 3D printer with a QIDI Box four-spool multicolor unit on top
QIDI · FDM 3D Printers

QIDI Max4 Combo

The QIDI Max4 Combo is a large CoreXY printer that heats its own chamber to 65°C for ABS, ASA and nylon, with a 370°C hotend and a four spool QIDI Box on top. Three owners report it running for 20 hours to a month at a stretch, but seven of 27 name a hardware fault on their unit, and the Box is the part they complain about most. Skip it if you print mostly PLA.

  • Print size 390 x 390 x 340 mm
  • CoreXY with closed-loop stepper motors
  • Up to 65° C independent chamber heating
